Richard Hager is a new member of the Sarasota artist community having relocated to Florida from California. Richard is a largely self-taught sculptor
who sought an artistic outlet during his career
as an engineer and business executive. In 2001 after many years experimenting with primitive and abstract forms, he developed a passion for figurative sculpture under the tutelage of Marty Davis at the Athenaeum in San Diego. In 2003 he spent several inspiring months studying stone carving and sculpture in Italy. His pursuit of the human form in sculpture revolves around the traditional themes of identity and transformation of the individual. His work has been featured in several national and regional art exhibitions.
Richard is a member of the National Sculpture Society and is a past member of the San Diego Sculpture Guild.
